How it is
Every "first world" country on earth has figured out some version of socialized medicine. Calling for an ambulance is required in some countries if you're able to, and it won't bankrupt them. People would now rather rideshare or get driven to a hospital or urgent care than risk the bill for the potentially required first aid required from the EMT.
Decades ago you could count on your employer to provide you with reasonable health insurance, but that's no longer the case. Health clinics, pharmaceuticals, EMTs and every other provider is jacking up their prices, and the pharmacy benefit managers and insurance companies are inflating their prices while making deals to gouge extra revenue.
Why are companies allowed to price out people from life saving drugs and procedures?

How it should be
Your tax dollars should go toward helping you, shouldn't they?
Instead of paying $200+/m (I pay $397/m) or maybe a little less on a company plan, what if what you're paying in taxes actually went towards that?
Employers could pay a bit more per employee, and those that make much more could offset the costs of those of us making far less.
Require health care providers to either be publicly funded or non-profit. Reign in pharmaceuticals' profit margins when they're taking government subsidies. Eliminate PBMs and insurance companies who merely exist for profit.
Public healthcare would cost less than the current system, the health of everyone would increase, and more lives would be saved.
